Mondays at Dooky’s

Historical Mural / Installation Collaboration with Ron Bechet and Xavier Art Students.

Mondays at Dooky’s Mural & Installation

This piece may be the single most rewarding project ive worked on to date. First of all, the historical significance of the space itself is immeasurable. Secondly, the Chase family are incredible stewards of our city and culture’s history and workin with them on this was a huge honor.  The greatest honor of all in this process was getting to work with my mentor Ron Bechet. He guided myself and a few students from Xavier University’s Art dept through the process of research, development, and execution of thee project. IT was incredibly an improvisational process. Which really led to the beauty of the creative problem solving and collaboration between the 5 of us involved.

sketching begins…

Working in XU’s Art dept., we laid out canvas on the wall and began drawing with charcoal while researching the individuals and organizations that needed to be represented in the piece.

In my section of the mural, i began with a outer frame to mimic the wall paper that would be hung around the room. my intention was to create the illusion of the piece being a portal into another place that exists behind the wall paper.
